My research

The research I conduct during my PhD thesis is mainly focused on the geophysical method of Magnetic Resonance Sounding (MRS). This sounding technique is sensitive to the water content in the near subsurface. It was applied to monitor the temporal evolution of the water content during a snowmelt event on the Strengbach headwater catchment (OHGE).

I developed a coupled hydrogeophysical model that simulates the subsurface water flow and - from water content distributions - the MRS signals. The main goals of my PhD thesis are to analyze the sensitivity of time lapse MRS signals to subsurface hydrodynamic parameters, and to infer these parameters from field time lapse MRS measurements.

I also worked with gravimetry data to model the subsurface density anomaly at the catchment scale on the Strengbach catchment. Finally, I lead an ambitious hydrogeophysical monitoring campaign combining time lapse MRS and micro-gravimetry during winter 2024-25.
